General Service Hat Badges of the 1st AIF and the 1st NZEF

Origins & details of this ANZAC badge are (currently) unknown. I believe it to be unofficial.
The AIF (including the Australian Light Horse & the Australian Flying Corps) used the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces (Rising Sun) badge see above left  almost exclusively. 

There was an Australian Imperial Force (Rising Sun) badge but it was only used on headstones, memorials and paperwork. It was never issued to troops.

New Zealand, early in the war, used the silver fern badges as hat and collar badges.
