Mt Thompson Memorial Gardens & Crematorium, Mt Gravatt Brisbane

Mount Thompson Memorials Gardens, Nursery Road Mt. Gravatt Brisbane Queensland is the last resting place of many, many Ex-Service personnel.

There are memorials to Generals, VC winners and last but not least, my father, 805 Sergeant Charles Frederick William ("Charlie" or "Chas") Harris MM late of D Company 42nd Infantry Battalion AIF.

The gardens and the general atmosphere of the whole place, but in particular the Ex-Service Section, are a credit to the owners and managers.

The two Chapels (East Chapel & West Chapel) and the crematorium are on the top of a hill surrounded by stately trees and immaculate gardens with thousands of shrubs.
Entry to the Ex-Service section is past the Pool of Reflection and the Australian National Flag flies proudly every day.

A closer view of the Pool of Reflection

The Columbaria that hold the ashes and the Memorial Plaques stand in military precision rows.

As can be seen various badges are available for Memorial Plaques.

On the reverse of the granite wall that stands behind the Pool of Reflection is carved a huge representation of St. George slaying the Dragon and the words "They gave that we might not live in fear".

The Memorial Cairn

In about the centre of a grassed area the stands a Memorial Cairn with brass plaques setting out short histories of the various campaigns.
